What to Expect Superficial Keratectomy

Pre-Procedure Consultation

Preparing for the Procedure

  • You may need to stop wearing contact lenses in the days leading up to surgery.
  • Pre-procedure eye drops may be prescribed to prepare the cornea.
  • Arrange for transportation home, as vision may be temporarily blurry post-procedure.

The Superficial Keratectomy Procedure (10-15 minutes per eye)

  • Numbing eye drops are applied for comfort.
  • The surgeon gently removes the irregular corneal tissue using a precision instrument.
  • A bandage contact lens may be placed to aid healing.
